Northern Vermont University (NVU) is a public university in the United States. It is part of the Vermont State Colleges system. The university has two campuses, one in Johnson and one in Lyndon, both in Vermont. The school was founded in 1834 as Vermont's first private college, Vermont Academy of Arts and Sciences. It became a state college in 1866 and was renamed Vermont Agricultural College. It was renamed again in 1872 to Vermont University, and finally to Northern Vermont University in 2018. The university offers bachelor's and associate's degrees, as well as certificates and diplomas. The school's sports teams are known as the NVU Wildcats.
