Longwood University is a public university in Farmville, Virginia. The university was founded in 1839 as Farmville Female Seminary Association and became Longwood College in 1949. Longwood became a university in 2012. The university is the third oldest public university in Virginia and the oldest women's university in the state. The university is a member of the Virginia Public Higher Education Cooperative.

Longwood University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award baccalaureate and master's degrees. The university offers over 80 majors and programs of study through four colleges: the Cook-Cole College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Business and Economics, the College of Education and Human Services, and the College of Graduate and Professional Studies. The university also offers a Doctor of Pharmacy program through the School of Pharmacy.

The university's 1,800-acre campus is located in the town of Farmville, Virginia, about an hour drive from Richmond, Virginia. The campus features over 50 buildings, including several historic buildings. The campus is also home to Longwood Gardens, a botanical garden with over 20,000 plants.

The university's athletic teams compete in NCAA Division III as members of the South/Southeast Region of the Atlantic University Sports Conference. The university's men's sports teams include baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, lacrosse, soccer, tennis, and track and field. The university's women's sports teams include basketball, cross country, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field, and volleyball.
