Guam Community College (GCC) is a two-year institution of higher education located in the village of Mangilao on the island of Guam in the Western Pacific Ocean. GCC is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, and is a member of the American Association of Community Colleges. The college offers Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, and Associate in Applied Science degrees, as well as certificate programs in a variety of career and technical fields.
GCC was established in 1971 as the Guam Vocational Technical Institute. The institute was created in response to a need for skilled workers in the construction and tourism industries on the island. The first classes were held in temporary facilities in Tamuning, and the first permanent campus was built in Mangilao in 1974. In 1980, the institute was renamed Guam Community College.
Since its establishment, GCC has grown to become the largest provider of higher education on the island, serving over 4,000 students each semester. The college offers a wide range of programs and services to meet the needs of its diverse student body. GCC also plays an important role in the community, providing workforce training and adult education programs, and serving as a cultural and economic hub for the island.
