Fitchburg State University is a public university in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. It is the fourth largest state university in Massachusetts in terms of undergraduate enrollment. The university offers bachelor's degrees, master's degrees, and post-graduate certificates in a variety of disciplines.

Fitchburg State University was founded in 1894 as the state's normal school, a school for training teachers. The school became a state college in 1960 and a state university in 2010. The university is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.

The university's main campus is located on 84 acres (340,000 m2) of land in the city of Fitchburg. The campus includes several academic and administrative buildings, as well as athletic facilities and residence halls. The university also owns and operates a satellite campus in Leominster, Massachusetts.
