Dominican offers bachelor's degrees, master's degrees, and doctorate degrees in a variety of disciplines, including business, education, nursing, and psychology.

Dominican University of California was founded by the Dominican Sisters of San Rafael. The Sisters were inspired to start the university in order to provide a quality education to women who were otherwise not able to attend college. The university was originally located in the city of Benicia, California, but moved to its current location in San Rafael in 1896.
