Clarkson University is a private research university with its main campus in Potsdam, New York, and additional graduate program and research facilities in New York State's Capital Region and Beacon, New York. It was founded in 1896 and has an enrollment of about 4,300 students studying toward bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in each of its schools and colleges.

The school was founded by the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi in 1896 as a Catholic college for women. The school became coeducational in 1968. Clarkson was the first technological university in the United States, and offers programs in engineering, business, the sciences, health sciences, and liberal arts.

The University has an endowment of over $160 million. Clarkson's athletic teams compete in NCAA Division III as members of the Liberty League.

Clarkson University is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. The School of Business is accredited by AACSB International. The School of Engineering is accredited by ABET.
