California State University-Monterey Bay (CSUMB) is a public university in the Monterey Bay area of California. It is part of the 23-campus California State University (CSU) system. The university offers bachelor's degrees, master's degrees, and doctorates in a variety of disciplines.

CSUMB was founded in 1994 as a result of the California Master Plan for Higher Education. The university opened its doors to students in September 1995. CSUMB is located on the site of the former Fort Ord, a U.S. Army base that closed in 1994. The university is situated on 1,365 acres (5.54 km2) of land overlooking the Monterey Bay.

CSUMB is a comprehensive university with a strong commitment to teaching, research, and public service. The university offers a wide range of academic programs and degrees. CSUMB is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
