Fresno State is a public university in Fresno, California. It is one of the 23 campuses of the California State University (CSU) system. The university is within the city limits of Fresno, near downtown Fresno. The university has a total enrollment of 24,405 students as of Fall 2019. Fresno State offers bachelor's degrees in 60 areas of study, 45 master's degrees, 3 doctoral degrees, 12 certificates of advanced study, and 2 different teaching credentials.

The university is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Fresno State was founded as the Fresno Normal School in 1911 with the purpose of training teachers. The school later expanded its curriculum and became Fresno State Teachers College, then Fresno State College, and finally Fresno State University. The university has seen rapid growth in recent years, with its student body and faculty doubling in size since the early 2000s.

Fresno State is home to a number of research institutes and centers, including the Center for Water Resources and Technology, the Institute for Food and Agricultural Sciences, and the Lyles Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. The university is also home to a number of athletic teams, the most notable of which are the Fresno State Bulldogs, who compete in NCAA Division I.
