Cal Poly Pomona began as the southern campus of the California Polytechnic School in 1938. Its northern campus is Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. The university is located in San Bernardino County, about 30 miles (48 kilometers) east of Downtown Los Angeles. The university is located on 1,438 acres (5.8 km2) of rolling hills in the city of Pomona, California, about 30 miles (48 km) east of Downtown Los Angeles. The campus is adjacent to the Los Angeles County Fairplex, which hosts the annual L.A. County Fair. The university is bisected by the Pomona Freeway (State Route 60).
