California Baptist University (CBU) is a private, Christian university in Riverside, California. Founded in 1950 as California Baptist College, it is affiliated with the California Southern Baptist Convention. CBU is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. The university offers more than 150 programs leading to bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees through eight colleges and schools.

CBU's sports teams compete in Division II of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and are members of the Pacific West Conference (PacWest). The Lancers have won numerous conference championships, and the men's water polo team has won three national championships.

CBU was founded in 1950 by the California Southern Baptist Convention. The university's first president was Dr. Lloyd C. Gerber, and the first class consisted of just over 100 students. In 1953, the college moved to its current location in Riverside, California. The college was accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges in 1961.

In 1965, the college began offering graduate programs, and in 1984 the college was renamed California Baptist University. In 1987, CBU became a member of the NCAA Division II. The university has seen significant growth in recent years, and its student body now consists of over 10,000 students from all 50 states and more than 70 countries.

CBU offers a wide variety of academic programs through its eight colleges and schools. The College of Arts and Sciences offers bachelor's degrees in over 50 majors, as well as master's degrees in several fields. The College of Business offers degrees in business administration, accounting, and economics. The College of Education offers degrees in elementary education, special education, and educational leadership. The College of Engineering offers degrees in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and computer engineering. The College of Fine Arts and Communication offers degrees in art, music, theatre, and communication. The College of Nursing offers degrees in nursing, and the School of Church Music offers degrees in church music.

CBU's athletic teams compete in the NCAA Division II Pacific West Conference (PacWest). CBU offers a wide variety of student clubs and organizations, and the university is active in the community, with many students participating in service projects each year.
