Brooklyn Law School was founded in 1901 by a group of Brooklyn judges and lawyers. The school began with a class of 21 students and three faculty members. The first class graduated in 1904.
In 1920, the school moved to its current location in Downtown Brooklyn. The school expanded its curriculum and began offering evening classes in order to accommodate working students.
In the 1930s, Brooklyn Law School was one of the first law schools in the country to offer a part-time program. The school also began offering a four-year J.D. program in order to compete with other law schools.
In the 1950s, the school began offering LL.M. and J.S.D. degrees. The school also began admitting women on a regular basis.
In the 1960s, the school began offering clinical programs. The school also began admitting minority students.
In the 1970s, the school established a public interest law center. The school also began offering a three-year J.D. program.
In the 1980s, the school established an environmental law program. The school also began offering a joint J.D./M.B.A. program.
