Brigham Young University-Hawaii (BYUH) is a private university located in Laie, Hawaii, on the island of Oahu. BYUH is owned and operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). It is one of the church's nine universities and colleges. BYUH is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
BYUH was established in 1955 as the Church College of Hawaii. The school was founded to provide higher education opportunities for LDS Church members in the Pacific region. The church had previously operated a high school in Laie, called the Laie Hawaii Temple School. The Church College of Hawaii was renamed Brigham Young University-Hawaii in 1974.
BYUH offers bachelor's and associate's degrees in a variety of subjects. The university is organized into five colleges: the College of Language, the College of Family, Home, and Social Sciences, the College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, the Ira A. Fulton College of Engineering and Technology, and the Church College of Hawaii.
BYUH is known for its diverse student body, which includes students from over 70 countries. The university is also home to the Polynesian Cultural Center, a living museum that showcases the cultures of Polynesia.
BYUH is located on the north shore of Oahu, about 30 minutes from Honolulu. The university's campus is nestled between the foothills of the Ko'olau Mountains and the shores of Laie Bay. BYUH's campus is spread out over 170 acres (0.69 km2) of land.
BYUH is a member of the NCAA Division II and competes in the Pacific West Conference. The university's athletic teams are nicknamed the Seasiders. BYUH's men's volleyball team has won four national championships.
BYUH is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
