Admission Requirements
Bluefield State College is a public institution of higher education located in Bluefield, Virginia, United States. The school is part of the Virginia Community College System. Founded in 1887 as a normal school, Bluefield State College has evolved into a comprehensive, four-year college serving the Appalachian region of Virginia, West Virginia, and Kentucky. The College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award baccalaureate and associate degrees.
The mission of Bluefield State College is to provide accessible, affordable, high quality, student-centered education and to promote economic development in the Appalachian region. The College accomplishes its mission by offering associate and baccalaureate degrees, certificate programs, continuing education, and workforce development services.

To be eligible for admission to Bluefield State College, an applicant must:
• Be a high school graduate or the equivalent thereof;
• Submit an official high school transcript or the equivalent thereof;
• Submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities previously attended;
• Meet the minimum course requirements for the desired degree program;
• Meet the minimum grade point average (GPA) requirements for the desired degree program;
• Meet any additional requirements for the desired degree program;
• Complete and submit a Bluefield State College application for admission; and
• Pay the required application fee.
Applicants who do not meet the minimum GPA requirements for regular admission may be considered for admission on a provisional basis. Provisional admission is granted at the discretion of the Admissions Committee and is based on an evaluation of the applicant’s entire academic record.
Students who are provisionally admitted must earn a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher during their first 30 semester hours of enrollment at Bluefield State College in order to be eligible for continued enrollment.
