Belhaven University is a private, Christian liberal arts university located in Jackson, Mississippi, United States. The university was founded in 1883 as Belhaven College by the Presbyterian Church in the United States. The university's name is derived from the Scottish town of Belhaven, which was the birthplace of John McDonogh, the university's founder. The university is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award bachelor's and master's degrees. The university is a member of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities.
The university offers bachelor's degrees in over 50 majors, as well as master's degrees in business, education, nursing, and counseling. The university also offers an online bachelor's degree completion program and an online master's degree in business administration. The university's athletic teams compete in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics as a member of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference. The Belhaven Blazers have won nine national championships and 27 conference championships.
The university is located on a 48-acre (19 ha) campus in the historic Belhaven neighborhood of Jackson. The campus includes several historic buildings, including the McDonogh House, which serves as the university's administration building, and the Galloway House, which houses the university's admissions office. The campus also includes the Ethel Walker Chapel, the Belhaven Bell Tower, and the Center for the Arts.
