Alfred University is a small, private university in the village of Alfred, New York, in the Western New York region of the United States. The school was founded in 1836 as the Alfred Academy and began offering college-level courses in 1857. Alfred University is noted for its strong programs in ceramics, engineering, and business, and is the home of the New York State College of Ceramics. The school also has a Division III athletics program.
