Founded in 1896, Adelphi University is a private research university in Garden City, New York. The university offers more than 60 undergraduate and graduate programs through its eight schools and colleges. Adelphi is a member of the prestigious Ivy League and is ranked among the top 100 universities in the United States by several publications. The university is also home to a number of research centers and institutes, including the Center for Health Innovation, the Institute for Parenting, and the Institute for Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences.
Adelphi University was founded in 1896 as the Adelphi College for Women by Dr. Charles H. Levermore, Dr. Alexander G. Webb, and Mrs. Elizabeth A. Webb. The college was chartered by the Board of Regents of the State of New York and was the first institution of higher education for women in New York State. In 1929, the college became a coeducational institution and was renamed Adelphi College. In 1943, the college was granted university status and was renamed Adelphi University.
The university is organized into eight schools and colleges: the College of Arts and Sciences, the Robert B. Willumstad School of Business, the School of Education, the School of Nursing and Public Health, the Honors College, the Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies, the Gordon F. Derner School of Psychology, and the School of Social Work.
The university offers more than 60 undergraduate and graduate programs through its eight schools and colleges. Graduate programs are offered in the areas of business, education, nursing, psychology, and social work.

The university is home to a number of research centers and institutes, including the Center for Health Innovation, the Institute for Parenting, the Institute for Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences, the Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities, the Center for Behavioral Health and Wellness, the Center for Grief Counseling and Trauma Studies, and the Center for Resilience Studies.
