MiraCosta College is a public community college in California with campuses in Oceanside and Cardiff-by-the-Sea. The college offers over 130 associate degree and certificate programs as well as transfer opportunities to four-year colleges and universities. In addition to academic programs, MiraCosta College provides workforce training and community education classes.
MiraCosta College was founded in 1934 as a two-year institution serving the communities of Oceanside and Vista in northern San Diego County. The college was originally known as the Oceanside-Vista Junior College District. In the early years, the college offered a limited number of courses and programs, but it gradually expanded its offerings as the community grew.
In the 1960s, MiraCosta College began to offer four-year transfer programs in partnership with local universities. In the 1970s, the college added vocational and technical programs to its curriculum. In the 1980s, the college began offering distance learning opportunities. In the 1990s, the college added a campus in Cardiff-by-the-Sea.
Today, MiraCosta College is a comprehensive community college serving over 18,000 students each year. The college offers a wide variety of academic, vocational, and technical programs. In addition to its credit programs, the college also offers non-credit workforce training and community education classes.
MiraCosta College is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. The college is also accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.
