Admission Requirements
Walters State Community College is a public, two-year institution of higher education located in Morristown, Tennessee. The college is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award associate degrees. The college is governed by the Tennessee Board of Regents and offers programs of study that lead to the Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, and Associate of Applied Science degrees, as well as certificates in a variety of career and technical fields.
Admission to Walters State is open to any student who has graduated from an accredited high school or who has successfully completed a General Educational Development (GED) test. The college does not require applicants to submit SAT or ACT scores. However, students who have not taken either of these tests may be required to take the Walters State Placement Test prior to enrolling in classes.
Students who have earned college credit from another institution may be eligible for transfer credit at Walters State. The college accepts up to 64 semester hours of credit from regionally accredited two- and four-year institutions. In order to receive transfer credit, students must submit official transcripts from all previous colleges attended. Transcripts must be sent directly to the Office of the Registrar from the issuing institution.
Students who have not earned college credit previously may be eligible for admission to Walters State through the Adult Degree Completion Program. This program is designed for adults who have completed some college coursework but have not earned a degree. To be eligible for admission, students must submit official transcripts from all colleges previously attended, as well as a resume, a personal essay, and two letters of recommendation.
Once all required materials have been received, applicants will be notified of their admission status. Students who are admitted to Walters State will be required to complete a new student orientation prior to enrolling in classes.
