Wake Technical Community College is a public two-year technical college located in Raleigh, North Carolina. The college offers over 200 career and technical education programs as well as adult basic education, continuing education, and college transfer courses. Wake Tech is the largest community college in the North Carolina Community College System.
Wake Tech was founded in 1958 as a part of the Wake County Public School System. The college originally operated out of two high schools, but rapidly outgrew these facilities. In 1963, Wake Tech opened its first permanent campus on a 36-acre (15 ha) site in southeast Raleigh. The following year, the college began offering its first Associate in Applied Science degrees.
Over the next several decades, Wake Tech continued to grow, adding new campuses, programs, and facilities. In 2013, the college completed a $74 million dollar bond referendum to fund a number of construction projects, including a new Public Safety Education Campus.
Wake Tech is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award associate degrees, diplomas, and certificates. The college is also accredited by numerous professional and technical organizations.
Wake Tech enrolls over 41,000 students in credit and non-credit courses each year. The college offers a wide variety of programs and courses, including health sciences, business and information technology, engineering and industrial technologies, and public services.
Wake Tech is an active member of the Raleigh community, providing workforce training and economic development services. The college also offers a variety of cultural and recreational opportunities for students, faculty, and staff, including an on-campus fitness center, library, and performing arts center.
