Surry Community College is a public, two-year institution of higher education located in Dobson, North Carolina. The College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award associate degrees. The main campus is situated on 126 acres (0.51 km2) of land in Surry County.
The College serves Surry and Yadkin counties. The service area includes the cities of Mount Airy and Elkin, and the town of Pilot Mountain. The College also has a presence in the communities of Dobson, Pilot Mountain, and Mount Airy through its Small Business Center, Adult Basic Education, and Adult High School programs.
The College offers over 60 degree and certificate programs. The most popular programs are in the areas of Business, Health Sciences, and Public Service.
Admission to the College is open to any individual with a high school diploma or equivalent. The College does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, or age in its admissions or programs.
Individuals who wish to enroll in credit courses must complete an application for admission and submit all required transcripts and test scores. Non-credit students are not required to submit transcripts or test scores.
The College has an open-door policy for admission to credit courses. This means that any individual who meets the minimum requirements for admission will be accepted into the College.
Once an individual has been accepted into the College, he or she will be required to complete a placement test to determine course placement. The placement test is used to determine which courses the student is eligible to take.
After the student has been accepted and has completed the placement test, he or she will meet with a counselor to develop a plan of study. The counselor will help the student select courses that will transfer to a four-year institution, if the student plans to continue his or her education.
The College has a rolling admissions policy, which means that applications are accepted throughout the year. However, it is recommended that students apply early to ensure that they have the best selection of courses.
