Southwest Texas Junior College, located in Uvalde, Texas, is a two-year public institution of higher education and one of the few remaining junior colleges in the state. The college is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award associate degrees. It is also a member of the Texas Association of Community Colleges.

The college was founded in 1946 as a response to the post-World War II baby boom and the need for more higher education opportunities in the Southwest Texas region. The college originally operated out of a converted high school building and offered only night classes. In its first year, the college enrolled just over 200 students.

Today, the college enrolls more than 4,000 students from a wide range of backgrounds and age groups. It offers over 50 academic programs leading to an Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, or Associate of Applied Science degree. The college also offers a number of certificate programs.
