Savannah Technical College is a two-year public college located in Savannah, Georgia, United States. The college offers associate's degrees, technical certificates, and continuing education opportunities.
Founded in 1934 as the Industrial Institute and College of Savannah, the college began as a vocational school offering programs in carpentry, masonry, machine shop, and electricity. In 1963, the college was renamed Savannah Area Technical School and began offering programs in business and office technology, health occupations, and trade and industrial education. In 1986, the college became Savannah Technical Institute, and in 2000, the institution was renamed Savannah Technical College.
Today, the college enrolls over 5,000 students in over 60 programs of study. The college is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges and is a member of the Technical College System of Georgia.
Savannah Technical College is committed to providing quality technical education and training that meets the changing needs of the Coastal Empire region. The college offers a variety of programs and services to meet the needs of students, businesses, and industries.
The college offers associate's degrees in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) as well as health science, business, and public service. The college also offers technical certificates in a variety of trade and industrial fields. In addition, the college provides adult education and continuing education opportunities.
The college has campuses in Savannah and Effingham County, Georgia. The Savannah campus is located in the historic district of downtown Savannah. The Effingham campus is located in Rincon, Georgia.
The college is governed by a nine-member Board of Trustees appointed by the Governor of Georgia. The college is led by President Dr. Kathy S. Love.
