Admission Requirements
Sacramento City College (SCC) is a two-year community college located in Sacramento, California. SCC is part of the Los Rios Community College District and offers associate's degrees, certificates, and transfer programs.
Admission to SCC is open to all students who meet the minimum requirements. To be eligible for admission, students must:
1. Be at least 18 years of age
2. Have a high school diploma or equivalent
3. Take and pass the California High School Proficiency Exam (CHSPE), or
4. Take and pass the General Educational Development (GED) test
Students who do not meet the above requirements may still be eligible for admission if they can demonstrate their ability to benefit from instruction at SCC. For more information on the ability to benefit admission policy, please contact the Admissions Office.
Once students have met the minimum requirements for admission, they must then complete the application process. The application for admission is available online at the SCC website.
Students will need to provide the following information and documents when completing the application:
1. Personal information including name, address, email, and phone number
2. Educational history including high school and/or college transcripts
3. Test scores from the CHSPE or GED (if applicable)
4. A non-refundable application fee of $46
After the application has been submitted, students will be contacted by the Admissions Office to schedule an appointment for an orientation session. Orientation is mandatory for all new students and is designed to help students transition to college life.
During orientation, students will:
1. Learn about the college and its resources
2. Complete assessments to determine their skill level in English and math
3. Meet with a counselor to discuss their educational goals
4. Register for classes
Once students have completed orientation and registered for classes, they will need to purchase textbooks and supplies, and pay their tuition and fees. SCC offers a variety of payment options to make college affordable for all students.
