Lenoir Community College was founded in 1958 as a two-year public institution of higher education. The college was originally part of Lenoir County Public Schools and was known as Lenoir County Technical Institute. In 1963, the college became a part of the newly created North Carolina Community College System. The college changed its name to Lenoir Community College in 1969.
Since its founding, Lenoir Community College has grown and expanded its programs and facilities. The college now occupies a 100-acre campus in Kinston, North Carolina. The campus includes over 30 buildings, including academic buildings, a library, a student center, and athletic facilities.
