The college is governed by a seven-member Board of Trustees, which is appointed by the Labette County Commission. LCC offers associate degrees and certificate programs in a variety of academic and career-technical areas. The college also provides a number of services to the community, including adult basic education, workforce development, and continuing education.

LCC was established in 1965 as a result of a vote by the Labette County Commission. The college originally operated out of a converted high school building in the city of Parsons. In its early years, LCC served primarily as a two-year institution, offering associate degrees and certificate programs in a variety of academic and career-technical areas. The college also provided a number of services to the community, including adult basic education, workforce development, and continuing education.

In the late 1960s, the Kansas Legislature authorized the establishment of community colleges in each of the state's 105 counties. As a result, LCC began to offer courses and programs in a wider variety of academic and career-technical areas. The college also began to expand its facilities and services, adding a library, a child care center, and a student union.

In the early 1980s, LCC experienced a period of significant growth. The college added a number of new academic programs and facilities, including a nursing program, a dental hygiene program, and a new campus in the city of Oswego. LCC also began to offer a number of distance learning courses and programs, making it possible for students to complete their degrees and certificates without ever having to step foot on campus.

Today, LCC is a comprehensive community college serving the residents of Labette County and the surrounding area. The college offers a wide variety of academic and career-technical programs, as well as a number of services and facilities. LCC is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association.
