J. F. Ingram State Technical College is a public two-year technical college located in Deatsville, Alabama. It is one of the twenty-two two-year colleges that comprise the Alabama Community College System. The college was established in 1965 and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The college offers associate degrees and technical certificates in a variety of programs.
The college was named for James F. Ingram, a former Alabama legislator who served as the first chairman of the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees. The college opened its doors in September 1965 with an initial enrollment of 125 students. The first graduation class, consisting of thirteen students, received their degrees in May 1967.
Today, the college serves over 1,700 students annually. The college offers a variety of programs leading to an Associate in Applied Science degree, a technical certificate, or both. The programs are divided into five academic divisions: Business and Computer Technology, Health Sciences, Industrial and Construction Technology, Public Service, and Transportation.
The Business and Computer Technology Division offers programs in accounting, business administration, computer information systems, and office systems technology. The Health Sciences Division offers programs in dental hygiene, emergency medical technology, nursing, and radiologic technology. The Industrial and Construction Technology Division offers programs in automotive technology, building construction technology, industrial maintenance technology, and welding technology. The Public Service Division offers programs in fire science technology and law enforcement. The Transportation Division offers programs in aviation maintenance technology and truck driving.
In addition to the academic programs, the college also offers a variety of non-credit courses and programs for businesses and individuals. These include adult basic education, adult literacy, English as a second language, and workforce development. The college also offers continuing education courses for licensed professionals such as nurses and cosmetologists.
The college is located on a 120-acre campus in Deatsville, Alabama. The campus includes a variety of buildings and facilities, including a library, a computer lab, a bookstore, and a student center. The college also has a variety of athletic facilities, including a gymnasium, a weight room, and a track.
The college is governed by a nine-member Board of Trustees. The trustees are appointed by the Governor of Alabama and the Alabama State Board of Education. The college is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
The college is a member of the Alabama Association of Community and Junior Colleges, the Association of Alabama Colleges, and the American Association of Community Colleges.
