It is part of the California Community Colleges System and one of the 112 colleges administered by the Irvine Valley College District. IVC was founded in 1985 and is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. The college is located on a 105-acre (42 ha) campus in Irvine, California. The campus is adjacent to the Irvine Spectrum, a major shopping center in Orange County.
