Founded in 1946, Holyoke Community College was the first community college in Massachusetts. The college was originally located in the old Holyoke High School building on Beech Street. In its early years, the college offered only evening classes for working adults.

Today, Holyoke Community College is located on a 70-acre campus in the heart of Holyoke. The college enrolls over 9,000 students each year and offers over 100 degree and certificate programs. The college also offers online and evening courses for working adults.

Holyoke Community College is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. The college is a member of the Massachusetts Community College system.
