East Mississippi Community College is a two-year public community college located in Scooba, Mississippi. It is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The college serves Clay, Kemper, Lauderdale, Leake, Neshoba, Newton, Noxubee, Oktibbeha, Winston counties in Mississippi. EMCC offers associate degrees, certificates, and workforce training programs. The college has campuses in Scooba, Mayhew, Meridian, and Philadelphia, as well as several off-campus locations.
EMCC was established in 1927 as East Mississippi Junior College. It was the first junior college in Mississippi and one of the first in the nation. The college was originally housed in the old Scooba High School building. In 1928, the college moved to its current campus in Mayhew. The college began offering four-year degrees in the 1960s and changed its name to East Mississippi Community College in 1974.
EMCC is a comprehensive community college that offers a wide range of academic and career-technical programs. The college has six academic divisions: Business and Technology, Education and Human Sciences, Fine Arts and Humanities, Health Sciences, Math and Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences and Public Services. EMCC also has a Division of Workforce Training and Economic Development that offers non-credit workforce training programs.
