Columbus Technical College was founded in 1961 as Columbus Area Technician School. The school was established to provide technical training to the residents of the Columbus, Georgia area. The school was renamed Columbus Technical Institute in 1963. In 1986, the name was changed to Columbus Technical College.

The college is located on a 100-acre campus in Columbus, Georgia. The campus includes a library, a computer lab, a student center, and a variety of academic and support buildings.

The college offers over 50 associate degree and technical certificate programs. Programs of study include business, computer science, engineering, healthcare, and welding. The college also offers adult education and continuing education courses.
