Carl Albert State College (CASC) is a public community college in Oklahoma. It is part of the Oklahoma State System of Higher Education. The college offers two-year associate's degrees and certificate programs in a variety of subject areas.
CASC was founded in 1933 as a two-year junior college. It was named after Carl Albert, a former Speaker of the United States House of Representatives from Oklahoma. The college originally operated out of a single building in downtown Poteau. In the early years, the college offered a limited number of academic programs and had an enrollment of just over 100 students.
The college began to grow in the 1950s, as the state of Oklahoma began to invest more in higher education. The college added new buildings and academic programs, and its enrollment increased to over 1,000 students. In the 1960s and 1970s, the college continued to grow, adding more academic programs and facilities. Today, the college enrolls over 4,000 students and offers over 60 academic programs.
CASC is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. It is also a member of the Oklahoma Association of Community Colleges and the American Association of Community Colleges.
