BCCC was founded in 1965 as Barton County Junior College. The college was renamed Barton County Community College in 1989. The college serves the cities of Great Bend, Hoisington, Ellinwood, Claflin, and Odin, and the surrounding rural areas.
BCCC is a member of the Kansas Association of Community Colleges and the National Junior College Athletic Association. The college fields teams in men's and women's basketball, baseball, and softball.
