Carlton R Barkhurst Fellowship For Graduate Students

The Carlton R. Barkhurst Writing Fellowship is made possible by a generous gift from the late Irene Ahlbom Barkhurst.
The Carlton R. Barkhurst Writing Fellowship is intended to help PhD and master’s candidates finish their dissertation/thesis in a timely manner.
Up to eight Barkhurst Writing Fellowships will be awarded each academic year. Awards will be limited to a single semester of funding, either fall or spring. The single-semester awards will comprise of the following:
Fellowship of $8,919
1 Credit Hour of Tuition
Optional Student Fee Package
Student Health Insurance (if selected)
Eligibility requirements:
Ph.D. candidate (preliminary exam passed within four years prior to Anticipated Date of Graduation). Other graduate or professional students are not eligible.
Master’s student in their last semester, completing thesis. Other graduate or professional students are not eligible.
Must be an U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen (see: studentaid.gov) Eligibility Requirements with unmet financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Information on how to submit a FAFSA can be found here: uwyo.edu.
Anticipated Graduation Date form must be on file with the Office of the Registrar.
o For fall awards, student must be graduating in December of the current year. For spring awards, student must be graduating no later than August of the current year.
Must be eligible for the Optional Student Fee Package (an approved Optional Student Fee Package form must be on file with the Office of the Registrar before the Fellowship begins).
Must be in good academic standing.
Selection criteria:
Degree of unmet financial need.
Academic record and advisor’s recommendation.
Likelihood of completing degree by end of Barkhurst Fellowship semester.
Barkhurst Fellows may not hold any form of employment with the University of Wyoming during their fellowship semester. Furthermore, as fellowship recipients, Barkhurst Fellows are not employees and will not have any work expectations associated with their fellowship other than conducting their own research and writing their dissertation/thesis.
A nomination of an eligible student ideally should come from the student’s dissertation/thesis advisor, but could come from another faculty member. The nomination must include a letter of nomination and recommendation.
Fall semesters: Applications and a faculty submitted letter of nomination and recommendation must be completed by June 30 for Barkhurst Fellowship consideration.

Curriculum & Instruction Graduate Student Travel Grant

Preference for funding from C&I is given to students who are presenting. If funds are sufficient, support will also be given to students who are only attending a conference. $200 to $250 will be awarded once per semester per student, as long as funding is available, and is distributed on a first come first serve basis and funding need. Preference will be given to students who have not received funding within the annual year. After travel is complete, students must submit a receipt for their conference registration before they will receive funds. Please note, graduate students who are presenting may also apply to the Education Dean’s Office and Academic Affairs for additional support of up to $250 each. Esl Scholarship

Departmental Scholarship awarded to current Western students who are in the ESL program.
To be eligible, a student must:
Have a minimum of a 2.5 GPA or higher.
An Oral Best Plus test score of 4-7. (High Beginner to Intermediate)
Continue taking classes each semester towards earning the ESL Certificate.
Submit a 5-8 minute video using Studio in your Canvas account.

Applicants must fill out a Western release of information form so student video and student responses can be used as testimonials.

Excellence In Academics Scholarship

This scholarship is available to degree-seeking students enrolled in 12 credit hours or more at Western. Applicants must have completed 16 credit hours at Western with a 3.50 GPA in the semester prior to receiving the scholarship. Hathaway Scholarship

The Wyoming State Legislature approved legislation during their Spring 2006 session to establish a scholarship fund for Wyoming students to attend Western Wyoming Community college, any of the other six Wyoming community colleges, or the University of Wyoming. The legislation creates merit and need-based awards for eligible students to provide an incentive to pursue post-secondary education within the State of Wyoming. In addition, students initiating their Hathaway Scholarship at Western before July 31st who are Honors or Performance level will receive an enhancement to their Hathaway award. Hathaway award levels, requirements, and values are as follows.
Honors: $3,360 yearly award + $1,200 yearly enhancement (if requirement met)

Requires a minimum 3.5 high school GPA and an ACT composite of 25
Must complete State required class curriculum
Performance: $2,520 yearly award + $1,000 yearly enhancement (if requirement met)

Requires a minimum 3.0 high school GPA and an ACT composite of 21
Must complete State required class curriculum
Opportunity: $1,680 yearly award

Requires a minimum 2.5 high school GPA and an ACT composite of 19
Must complete State required class curriculum
Provisional: $1,680 yearly award

Requires a minimum 2.5 high school GPA and an ACT composite of 17

In order to receive awards, the Hathaway scholarship must be initiated and final transcripts must be received by July 31st. Hathaway Scholarships are awarded based on college-level class enrollment; if below 12 college-level credit hours, awards are prorated. Rocket Miner Scholarship

The Rocket Miner and Western have started collaborating to create new scholarships that will be available to students living in our service area of, Sweetwater, Sublette, Lincoln, Uinta, and Carbon counties. There will be three scholarships available for the Fall of 2022 semester and each of them will be worth one-third of a student’s full-time tuition!* Preference may be given to non-traditional students and students with greater unmet financial needs. Quality candidates will be invited on campus for a final interview and selection with the Rocket Miner Scholarship Review Team prior to the start of the fall term.
To be considered for this scholarship, you will need to meet the following eligibility requirements:
Completed your FAFSA for the 2022-2023 academic year.
Maintain a High School or College GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Student must be enrolled full-time.
Live in the Rocket Miner service area (Sweetwater, Sublette, Lincoln, Uinta, and Carbon counties).
Continuous enrollment
Be an active member of your local community.
Answer all essay questions on this application. These questions will be:

Introduce yourself. Who are you and what do you stand for?
Why should you be selected for this scholarship?
Think about a negative experience you have had. What happened, and how did you bring about a positive change?
How are you involved with the community?
For what purpose are you continuing your education?
To qualify for this award again in future semesters, current recipients will be offered a resume-building opportunity asking students to commit to 20 hours of volunteer work throughout the semester, working with a non-profit organization within the Rocket Miner service area. While this participation is not required, current recipients who opt out of this opportunity will not be eligible to receive this award the following semester.
The students awarded will:

School Of Counseling, Leadership, Advocacy & Design. (Clad) Graduate Student Travel

Preference for funding from CLAD is given to students who are enrolled in one of the School’s programs and who are presenting at a conference during the semester of the award application. In addition, preference will be given to those receiving funds for the first time during the academic year. If funds are sufficient, support will also be given to students who are only attending a conference. Up to $250 will be awarded only once per semester per student, as long as funding is available, and is distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis. Decisions about awards for students who are attending only will not be made until after the application deadline date. Wyoming Works Scholarship

Wyoming Works is a state grant program and resources are targeted toward adult students to advance their skills in areas that lead to secure employment. Space and grant funding is limited. Funding is only guaranteed for one year. Maximum award amounts for the Wyoming Works Standard Grant will be up to $840 per semester and the Wyoming Works Critical Grant will be up to $1,680 per semester.
