Alumni Association Scholarship
This scholarship is made available to UMass Boston undergraduate students who have demonstrated a commitment to the university through campus involvement, leadership roles, etc. Recipients must have financial need. This award does not have a minimum GPA, but strong academic records or a demonstrated improvement over time are considerations. This award does not have an in-state residency requirement. Dr. Kin-Chung Lam Scholarship Fund For Immigrant Success
The Dr. Kin-Chung Lam Scholarship Fund for Immigrant Success will provide two scholarship awards of $2,500 per student, per year, to full- or part-time undergraduate students in good standing, regardless of their residency status. Recipients will be pursuing a degree after a prolonged pause in their educational pursuits, and preference will be given to students parenting minor children. Financial need is a consideration and may be demonstrated through the FAFSA form or personal statements. The scholarship will be awarded to a student or students with greater than 24 credits completed and is renewable as long as the above criteria are met. At least one scholarship recipient each year must self-identify as a single-parent. Preference may be given to students from Brazil in honor of alumna Talita Guerrero ’15.

Preference may be given to students who have worked in, or expressed interest in, an elder care career.

Immigrant Achievers Scholarship
Tam Tran and Cinthya Felix were nationally recognized immigrant graduate student leaders from Brown and Columbia Universities. They worked tirelessly on behalf of the DREAM Act movement, but their lives were tragically cut short in a car accident in 2011. This scholarship has been created with that in mind, and students who are immigrants or the children of immigrants are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to those who demonstrate a future commitment to community engagement and are in need of financial assistance but are not eligible for federal financial aid.

The Christine Armett-Kibel Scholarship Fund
The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarship assistance for undergraduate students in their junior and senior years at the University who are majoring in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Earth, Environment and Ocean Science, Computer Science, Engineering and future majors in the College of Science, and when appropriate, other fields and disciplines where the content of the student’s work is extensively and primarily involved with the natural sciences. Whereas the primary purpose of the fund is scholarship assistance, it can, under certain circumstances, provide support to enhance the student’s educational experience, such as conference fees, travel to conferences, etc. The following guidelines will apply: A) Applicants will have a minimum of 55 credits completed toward degree with at least 12 credits at the University; B) Applicants must be United States citizens; C) Applicants will be evaluated on their academic record, promise and determination, and intention to pursue a career in the Sciences; D) Students are eligible to receive the award more than once; E) A committee of faculty and, as appropriate, professional staff appointed by the Dean of the College of Science and Mathematics will determine use of the income from the Fund in consultation with the University’s Merit Scholarship Office; F) While it is expected that the Fund will assist students regularly, it is not required that all earned income from the Fund be spent yearly. Any unspent interest will remain for further expenditures, however, the Dean of the College of Science and Mathematics may at her/his discretion return unspent interest to the principal.

The purpose of the Endowment is to assist needy and deserving UMass Boston students (the “Recipients”) who have “active involvement” with the Boys & Girls Clubs or related organizations (referred to hereinafter as the “Boys & Girls Clubs”). Related organizations include: Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston, The Boys and Girls Club of Dorchester, The Walter Denney Youth Center, The West End Club, The Salesian Club. Active involvement shall mean that the student has either been a member or an employee of the Boys & Girls Clubs for at least one year. The University agrees to make reasonable efforts to confirm Recipients’ active involvement with the Boys & Girls Clubs. Recipients shall have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 and may continue to receive the award annually during their enrollment at UMass Boston provided they meet the grade point average requirement.
