A native of North Buffalo, Joseph Salvatore Sperrazza was a dedicated educator who spend much of this career not only teaching students, but also mentoring teachers so they would succeed both professionally and personally. Inspired by Robert F. Kennedy, Mr. Sperrazza volunteered for the Peace Corps after completing his undergraduate degree and spent two life changing years in the Philippines educating and assisting teachers in Filipino schools.
When he returned to Buffalo in 1969, he enrolled at Buffalo State College to continue his own education, completing his Master’s degree in Secondary Education: English in 1974 and receiving a Certificate of Advanced Studies in School Administration and Supervision in 1987. A consummate professional, he taught at Bennett High School, Southside Junior High and the Futures Academy, was an assistant principal at School No. 38 and at the Academy Challenge School, and worked in the Buffalo Board of Education before his untimely death in 2003.
Throughout his career, Mr. Sperrazza focused on helping teachers help children. He believed strongly in the power of service and worked tirelessly to ensure that people came first. more...

Matthew (Matt) R. Row was a non-traditional student who was determined to expand his professional knowledge and opportunities. Initially enrolled at Buffalo State College in 1994, he attended college part-time while raising his family and working full-time at Cameron Compression Systems where he was a test engineer. After completing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) in 2007, Matt continued his education as a MET graduate student. He was very active in the Department and participated in the SAE Mini-Baja Race.
On November 15, 2008, a work accident resulted in his untimely death. Matt died at the age of 39, leaving behind a wife and two young children, a son aged four and a daughter aged eighteen months.

Matthew (Matt) R. Row was a non-traditional student who was determined to expand his professional knowledge and opportunities. Initially enrolled at Buffalo State College in 1994, he attended college part-time while raising his family and working full-time at Cameron Compression Systems where he was a test engineer. After completing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) in 2007, Matt continued his education as a MET graduate student. He was very active in the Department and participated in the SAE Mini-Baja Race.
On November 15, 2008, a work accident resulted in his untimely death. Matt died at the age of 39, leaving behind a wife and two young children, a son aged four and a daughter aged eighteen months.

Seals Family Memorial Scholarship
Description: The Seals Family Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Rev. Willie B. Seals (1910-1995); Mrs. Clara Ellis Seals (1921-2005) and Dr. Kenneth Seals, M.D. (1956-1996). Rev. Williw Brown (W.B.) and Mrs. Clara Ellis Seals moved from their hometown, Alexandria, Louisiana, to Buffalo in 1947. Zachary John Beveridge '08 Scholarship
Description: This scholarship was established by his adoring parents, Candida and Michael McMahon, and augmented by gifts from the family and friends of Zachary John Beveridge. Zachary graduated in 2008 with a bachelor of arts in history and a minor in coaching. One of his greatest passions was his love of football. In his 24 years Zach touched countless lives with his kind and compassionate ways.His spirituality and fun-loving nature made him the unique person he was. He cared deeply for those whose lives were in need of comfort and healing and made it his mission to reach out to them selflessly and humbly. Zachary was also a founding father of the Buffalo State chapter of Alpha Sigma Phi.
