Union County Vocational Technical School is a four-year public high school located in Scotch Plains, New Jersey, United States, serving students in ninth through twelfth grades from Union County, New Jersey. The school is part of the Union County Vocational Technical Schools district, which also includes Union County Academy for Allied Health and Science in Scotch Plains and Union County Vocational Technical High School in Rahway. The school has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Secondary Schools since 1992.
The school offers programs in the following areas: business and finance, construction trades, cosmetology, culinary arts, engineering and architecture, health sciences, information technology, law and public safety, and performing arts. The school also offers a cooperative education program, which allows students to earn academic credit and work experience simultaneously.
As of the 2014-15 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,014 students and 89.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 11.4:1. There were 561 students (55.4% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 106 (10.5% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.
The school's principal is Mark A. Quattrocchi. The school's vice principals are Kimberly A. Anderson, James P. D'Angelo and Matthew J. Reilly.
The school was founded in 1968 as Union County Technical Institute. The school was renamed in 1976 as Union County Vocational Technical School.
The school has been ranked among the top 500 high schools in the nation by Newsweek magazine. In its May 3, 2010 issue, ranking the nation's "Top High Schools", Newsweek ranked Union County Vocational Technical School 466th, up from 509th the previous year. In its September 2006 issue, ranking the nation's "Top Public High Schools", BusinessWeek magazine ranked Union County Vocational Technical School 327th.
