About South Dakota

South Dakota is a state in the Midwestern region of the United States. It is bordered by the states of North Dakota to the north, Minnesota to the east, Iowa to the southeast, Nebraska to the south, and Wyoming to the west. The state is named after the Lakota and Dakota Sioux Native American tribes, who comprise a large portion of the population and historically dominated the territory. South Dakota is the seventeenth largest by area, but the fifth smallest by population, and the 5th least densely populated of the 50 United States.

The state's history is dominated by the Lakota and Dakota Sioux, who were the first inhabitants, followed by European settlers who arrived in the 1850s in search of gold. The state's economy is now based on agriculture, tourism, and manufacturing.
