About Maine

Maine is a state located in the New England region of the northeastern United States. Maine is the 12th smallest state in the U.S. by area, the 9th least populous state, and the 38th most densely populated. It is bordered by New Hampshire to the west, the Atlantic Ocean to the southeast, and the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick and Quebec to the northeast and northwest, respectively. Maine is the easternmost state in the contiguous United States, and the northernmost state east of the Great Lakes.

Maine was one of the original thirteen colonies that formed the United States. It was admitted as a state on March 15, 1820, as the 23rd state. Maine is the only state in the U.S. whose name is one syllable. The origin of the name "Maine" is uncertain, but the most likely explanation is that it was named after the French province of Maine.

Maine is known for its scenery, its seafood, and its lobster. The state is also home to Acadia National Park, the only national park in New England.
