The McAllen-Edinburg-Mission metropolitan area, also known as The Rio Grande Valley, is an area located in the southernmost tip of Texas. The metro area is one of the fastest growing in the United States and has been ranked as the second most populous in the state of Texas.

The city of McAllen is the largest in the metro area and is the county seat of Hidalgo County. The city was founded in 1904 and was named after John McAllen, a Scottish-born rancher and businessman. The city is located in the Rio Grande Valley and is bordered by the cities of Mission and Edinburg.

The area is home to the McAllen-Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge, which is the busiest land port of entry from Mexico into the United States.
