Alton G. Brieger (Sb6045)
The Alton G. Brieger Scholarship is available to undergraduate students that are majoring in History and who have completed 30 hrs at Texas State. It is available to transfer and continuing students. Applicants must have an overall GPA of 3.0 and a 3.3 GPA in history.
Applicants must have completed one of the following courses within the history department: Hist2310; Hist2320; Hist2311; Hist2312 and/or an Advance Elective at @300 or @400 level.
Applicants must have completed at least 30 hours at Texas State University.
Applicants must submit an essay of 750 to 1000 words that examines how the study of history might affect an applicant’s future career plans and/or what , if any, effect it might have on the applicant’s ability to impact the world around them. In addition, the applicant should also share how their experiences within the History Department at Texas State has affected their decision to have a career in history.
Applicants must provide references from three (3) people as follows
One should be a teacher whose specialty is the same as or most similar to the applicant’s major
One should be a teacher who can describe the applicant’s academic abilities.
One should be an individual who can best provide a description of those personal qualities and attributes that make the applicant a suitable recipient. (relatives are not considered suitable references.

Charlotte Mccord Scholarship For Non-Traditional Students (Sm6337)
Charlotte McCord was a loved and respected member of the Sociology faculty. She left us in the summer of 2005 after a protracted and heroic battle with breast cancer. She generously donated her retirement funds to create this scholarship for Non-Traditional students. The Department of Computer Science at Texas State University created an Industrial Advisory Board comprised of members of the industry, and the department holds meetings every year striving for the betterment of the department’s academic programs in meeting the needs of the industry. In 1995, the IAB members established a scholarship fund for a computer science student to work for the IAB in meeting industry and department-related needs, such as creating databases. Contributions were received from IAB members to establish a fund to provide scholarship and financial assistance for students attending Texas State University. In spring 2007, the IAB members voted to use this scholarship account to fund undergraduate research assistants.

The Gwen K. Smith Endowed Scholarship Fund in Dance Education requires awards scholarships to students pursuing a BFA in Dance with a single teaching certification or a BFA in Dance with two teaching certifications. Applicant must be presently enrolled full-time as a junior or senior at Texas State University – San Marcos with at least 15 hours of coursework from Texas State University, have a 3.0 overall GPA and should have taken at least one of the required Curriculum and Instruction courses. In July 2020, Mrs. Lisa Franknecht established the Nicholas Down Scholarship in the Texas State University Development Foundation to honor the memory of her brother, Nicholas Down, class of 2014. Nicholas was an avid supporter of and participant in Bobcat Build during his time at Texas State. He enthusiastically and effectively served as the director for Bobcat Build. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography Urban and Regional Planning and after graduation, Nicholas worked as a GIS Analyst for the City of Austin for six years. The Smith-Willms Award in Science honors the careers of two faculty members at Southwest Texas State (now Texas State University) who served with distinction in two different departments and in different periods of the institution’s history. Dr. Charles Spurgeon Smith, Professor of Biology and Dr. Charles Ronald Willms, Professor of Chemistry, dedicated their professional careers to teaching science, primarily at the undergraduate level. They served as mentors and encouragers of students and inspired those whom they deemed to have unusual scholarly potential to pursue graduate studies. Numbers of those students went on to successful careers in academia, corporations, private business, and government. Students remember them as friends and as special teachers who recognized abilities and potential that may be previously gone unnoticed.

Student Affairs Scholarship (Ss0016)
The Division of Student Affairs has established the Student Affairs Scholarship Fund to assist students with completing their education. The purpose of the scholarship is to award funds to a child, family member, or dependent of a current Division of Student Affairs staff employee.
Recipient Requirements:
You must be a child, family member, or dependent of a current Student Affairs staff employee.
Must be an undergraduate student enrolled in Texas State University for a minimum of 12 hours in the semester awarded.
Be in good standing with the institution
Have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.25 for currently enrolled students
Incoming freshmen must be in the top 50 percent of graduating class
Incoming transfer student must have a 2.25 overall GPA

Taylor-Murphy Scholarship (St6310)
The Taylor-Murphy Scholarship is available to undergraduate students that are majoring in History at Texas State and have completed 30 hours at Texas State University. It is available to transfer and continuing students. Applicants must have a Overall GPA of 3.0 and and 3.3 GPA in history.
Applicants must have completed one of the following courses within the history department: Hist2310; Hist2320; Hist2311; Hist2312 and/or an Advance Elective at @300 or @400 level. Applicants must have completed at least 30 hours at Texas State University.
Applicants must submit an essay of 750 to 1000 words that examines how the study of history might affect an applicant’s future career plans and/or what , if any, effect it might have on the applicant’s ability to impact the world around them. In addition, the applicant should also share how their experiences within the History Department at Texas State has affected their decision to have a career in history.
Applicants must also provide references from three (3) people as follows
One should be a teacher whose specialty is the same as or most similar to the applicant’s major
One should be a teacher who can describe the applicant’s academic abilities.
One should be an individual who can best provide a description of those personal qualities and attributes that make the applicant a suitable recipient. (Relatives are not considered suitable references.

Terry Foundation Scholarship (St5180)

The Terry Foundation provides full-ride scholarships that are renewable for up to four years to Texas high school students. These students are selected from a highly competitive pool of incoming freshmen who have excelled in academics, leadership, and character. This scholarship also considers financial need.
Applicants for this award who meet all eligibility criteria as determined by an initial screening by Texas State will be required to submit two letters of recommendation, one of which needs to be from a high school teacher, counselor, or administrator. Finalists for this award will be required to attend an interview with the Terry Foundation to be held in early April. All final award selections are made by the Terry Foundation.
To be considered for the Terry Foundation Scholarship, applicants must demonstrate the following:
Proven leadership in their school or community
Financial need and complete the FAFSA by priority deadline
Strong academic record (grades, class rank, etc. SAT/ACT scores are not required.)
Graduation from a Texas high school
Full-time enrollment at Texas State University
Living on campus during the first year of the scholarship as part of the Terry Scholars Learning Community

Timothy William Reese Endowed Scholarship (Sr5444)
This scholarship honors the memory of Timothy William Reese (1951-2001) and provides financial assistance to students pursuing a BAAS degree through Organization, Workforce, & Leadership Studies with an emphasis on Business.
Mr. Reese received his degree from Texas State University-San Marcos (formerly SWT) in 1983. He was employed with the Social Security Administration for 31 years. His four children also attended Texas State.
Memorial contributions were made upon the death of Mr. Reese in 2001 by his widow, Claudette Reese. A maximum of $400 a year will be offered, when funds are available.
Applications are good for one year only and must be renewed each year.
Qualifications
Award to be presented annually to a student pursuing a degree with Business emphasis through the Organization, Workforce, & Leadership Studies Department.
