Alexander Reed Automotive Equipment Scholarship
The Alexander Reed Automotive Tool Scholarship is used to purchase tools for the program and/or pay off a standing tool loan. If the recipient does not have a tool loan and wishes to purchase tools, they will choose a company/store and submit a tool list to the Canton College Foundation where a representative will purchase the tools on the student’s behalf. If the student has a standing tool loan, the loan will be paid (up to) $2,000.
The $2,000 annual scholarship will be awarded to a deserving student in his/her third semester and will be chosen by Dennis Tuper, Instructional Support Associate, as was instructed by the Reed family. Baldwinsville High School Class of 1957 Endowed Scholarship was established by the late Joel M. Canino `59 and classmate George F. Dennison and is awarded to entering freshman from C.W. Baker High School, Baldwinsville, New York. An award of $12,500 per year will be given to two (2) students who will enroll in SUNY Canton two-year Air Conditioning Engineering Technology curriculum. Should there be only one eligible student, the committee may then award the second scholarship to a student who will enroll in any curriculum at SUNY Canton. The award amount for this scholarship will be $5,000 per year. The committee should consider academic excellence and need when making their decision. Craig Larkin New Beginnings Annual Scholarship
The Craig P. Larkin New Beginnings Scholarship was established in memory of Craig P. Larkin. It is an annual scholarship in the amount of $400, to be awarded to a student or students enrolled in the Homeland Security or Emergency Management degree program. Preference will be given to a student who has a documented disability. The scholarship is renewable providing that the student maintains at least a 3.0 grade point average and remains in good standing in the major.
The scholarship will be awarded following SUNY Canton’s application and review process for awarding scholarships.
Craig P. Larkin was enrolled in the SUNY Canton online BS Homeland Security and Emergency Management Program when he passed away on April 23, 2016, from complications of a heart attack. Craig was born on April 9, 1970. He was a graduate of Whitesboro High School and worked at several welding companies before going to MVCC for mechanical engineering from 1991-94. Craig attended NTTS Trucking School College, in 1995, and went on to drive 18-wheeler trucks, as owner and operator of Larkin Trucking, from 1995-2008. Craig was previously a ham radio operator for the Red Cross Voluntary Emergency Communications and was serving as the ARES Emergency Communications Coordinator for the ARRL National Association for Amateur Radio, ARRL EG Oneida County, New York. He loved fishing, hunting, photography, driving across country in his 18-wheeler, being a CB and ham radio operator, and was actively involved in weather and storm chasing. He always called his friends and family to let them know a storm was coming so that they would be safe. He especially loved his mom’s homemade soup, home-cooked meals, cards, banners and humor. more...

David ’80 And Tracy Elliott Endowed Scholarship
The David ’80 and Tracy Elliott Endowed Scholarship is awarded to a student enrolled in the Agribusiness program or related agriculture program at SUNY Canton. Recipients of this scholarship may continue to be awarded this scholarship for up to four academic years, provided they maintain a 2.5 GPA. Preference will be given to students from St. Lawrence, Franklin, Jefferson, Lewis, and Clinton counties.
David Elliott was born and raised on a dairy farm outside of Canton. He attended Canton High School, graduating in 1978. He attended Canton College, graduating in 1980 with a degree in Dairy and Food Science. He went to work for Allied Dairy Coop in 1980 as a dairy farm inspector. During his 26 years at Allied, he worked his way up to Director of Quality Control and Membership position. In 2006 he went to work for Agri-Mark Cabot Cheese as Regional Membership Manager, a position he currently holds.
He and his wife Tracy live on a 105 acre farm near Canton. Dave raises crops, loves to watch his handy work grow, and jokes that he is a wild deer farmer.
Tracy also grew up in Canton. Both of her parents were educators at Canton Central School. Tracy spent much of her childhood at Gramma Ritchie’s dairy farm helping with chores and loving the farm life. Later as a married mother of three, she continued her many trips to the farm. Tracy’s love of the farm made her realize that agriculture would always be a part of her life and that farming and agriculture was the backbone of the country. Tracy is a pediatric school-based physical therapist who has worked for St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES for the past 23 years.
The Elliotts are strong believers in higher education and supporting our youth. They believe that an education in agriculture-related fields at SUNY Canton will lead to many career opportunities. Dennis Tuper Book Scholarship
The Dennis Tuper Book Scholarship was established by Dennis Tuper to support students in the Automotive Program. This is to be awarded annually to a deserving second-year (sophomore) student enrolled at SUNY Canton as selected by Dennis Tuper to offset the cost of purchasing required textbooks and supplies. Gerard, from Theresa and a graduate of Indian River Central School, graduated in 1965 from SUNY Canton’s (then called Canton ATI) Electrical Technology program. After Gerard graduated, he met his wife Patricia, of Tulsa, OK. They married and established their home in Oklahoma where they both had long and successful careers with the Phillips Petroleum Company.

The Gregg and Anne Coloton Williams `78 Endowed Scholarship was created from donations from family and friends upon Anne’s retirement from SUNY Canton in December 2016. The scholarship shall be awarded to an entering or continuing student who has demonstrated good citizenship by being involved in extracurricular and/or community service activities. There are no curriculum, geographic, or financial need restrictions. The recipient may retain the scholarship as long as the recipient meets the minimum GPA requirements as set by the Scholarship Committee.
Anne Coloton Williams graduated from SUNY Canton in 1978 with an associate’s degree in Secretarial Science. She began working at the College that same year in the Word Processing Center. She continued her studies part-time and earned a second associate degree in Business Administration. In 1985, she became the Program Aide in the Admissions Office where she worked for 19 years. She enjoyed assisting prospective students and their families with their paperwork to register for classes. In 2004, Anne became the Assistant to the Vice President for Advancement and began working with the Alumni/Development Office and the Canton College Foundation. She thoroughly enjoyed working with the alumni, current students, and the Foundation Board of Directors. Maurice B. “Mick” Harrington Scholarship Endowment
The Maurice B. “Mick” Harrington Scholarship was established by his wife, Sheila Harrington `66, and his children to honor Mick’s life. The scholarship shall be awarded annually to a continuing student in Business Administration or Sports Management at SUNY Canton. The student must have a 3.0 GPA to be eligible for the scholarship.
Mick Harrington graduated from St. Lawrence University with a Bachelor’s in English and Masters in Education. He taught high school English for five years before joining IDS Financial Services in 1974. He worked as a Divisional Manager with the company until 1988. Mick then took his extensive business experience to SUNY Canton, where he worked as a Business Administration professor for 16 years.
Mick brought the Business Administration curriculum to life for his students with lessons and anecdotes from his experiences in the business world. He also inspired them to remember the impact their decisions will make on the lives of others and stressed the importance of ethics in business.
A former high school and collegiate athlete, Mick was often found cheering on the SUNY Canton athletic teams. He continued to support SUNY Canton athletics until his passing in April 2015.

The Pathways Scholars Award Program is a SUNY-initiated program to provide high performing students a gateway to enrollment and support to successfully complete their education at SUNY. Eligible students must have graduated from a high school in New York State with a high school average of at least 80%; and enrolled for the first time as a full-time student in an Associate degree program at a SUNY community college or college of technology.
Qualifying students will receive a total of $500 ($250/semester) to use for books, supplies, or other school related expenses during their first year. Seacomm Fcu Financial Literacy Endowed Scholarship
The SeaComm FCU Financial Literacy Endowed Scholarship is awarded to a deserving student from St. Lawrence, Franklin, or Clinton County who actively studies and participates in a field of financial literacy. The scholarship recipient shall be a student who excels in the classroom and demonstrates a willingness to help teach and lead others along the way. The student must have and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 to earn and retain this award. The student must major or minor in a business related field, with a preference to: Finance, Accounting, Business Administration and Management. The ideal recipient demonstrates his or her ability to balance college academics with community outreach, by sharing the financial knowledge learned in classes with the greater college and local community. This may be done through participation in the Financial Literacy Center, or other similar endeavor.

The Haig Family Scholarship Endowment was created by Walter ’89 and Elizabeth ’88 Haig to honor the positive effect SUNY Canton has had on their lives and to provide that opportunity to other students. The James ’77 and Susan Waters Endowed Scholarship was established by the Waters family to provide funds to help students receive a technical and experiential education at SUNY Canton. The Joel Lynde – Strive for Excellence Award was established with a gift by Chris Morrissey, Class of 1994, as a living tribute to Joel Lynde, Delta Kappa Sigma fraternity brother. Joel Lynde was one of four Delta Kappa Sigma brothers who were killed in March 1994 in a tragic car accident. Joel was from Gouverneur and came to SUNY Canton to study Air Conditioning Engineering Technology. The William J. Pacacha Annual Scholarship is awarded annually to two students. A student who demonstrates financial need is preferred. The students must be majoring in any of the following areas: Finance (B.B.A.), Management (B.B.A.), Accounting (A.A.S.), Business Administration (A.A.S.), or Sports Management (B.B.A.). The Donor prefers that one recipient is on track to receive an associate’s degree, the other, a bachelor’s degree.
