Academic Opportunity
The recipient of this scholarship must be classified as a new, on campus first-time freshman or transfer student and a first generation attendee. Recipients must enroll in and complete a minimum of 12 credit hours in the fall and spring semesters at Fort Hays State University. All new recipients will be required to participate in a mentorship program throughout the fall and spring semesters, and must become actively involved in at least one student organization on campus. Scholarship may be renewed for three additional years if a 2.5 cumulative FHSU GPA is maintained and 12 credit hours per semester are completed.

The recipients of ths scholarship shall be students majoring in any of the Advanced Education Program Department’s program. All support will be applied for the purpose described below:
1. The scholarship is provided to an undergraduate entering sophomore or junior year and pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Geology.
2. The recipient will be a high achieving individual demonstrating leadership qualities.
3. The recipient will be interested in pursuing a career in the oil and gas exploration and production industry in Kansas.
4. The scholarship will pay for in-state tuition and fees, up to 15 undergraduate credit hours per semester.
5. The scholarship is renewable subject to the candidate fulfilling the necessary requirements and is available for a maximum of six semesters per recipient if the recipient is a sophomore and four semesters per recipient if the recipient is a junior.
6. The appropriately qualified student will preferably be a Kansas resident.
7. The recipient will have enough credit hours to qualify as an incoming sophomore or junior, as applicable, and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
8. The recipient is required to be enrolled in at least 15 credit hours each semester and must maintain a 3.5 grade point average each semester to be eligible for the scholarship the following semester.
9. The selected student will be required to watch a minimum of 2 continuing education courses available on the KU Tertiary Oil Recovery Project (TORP) website each semester. The class or courses must be approved by Berexco LLC. A suitable report approved by the student’s advisor outlining the information learned will be required. Berexco will be provided with copies of each report submitted by the recipient.
10. The scholarship recipient will be required to take either an apprenticeship or an 8-10 week internship with Berexco in the summer after their sophomore, if applicable, and junior years provided that Berexco has a position available.
11. The recipient will be encouraged to join the local student chapter of the America Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG).

Grants
The P.E.O. Program for Continuing Education (PCE) is intended to provide one-time need based grants to women who are citizens or legal permanent residents of the United States or Canada for use in completing a degree or certification necessary for improving or gaining skills leading to employment.
• The maximum grant is $3,000.
• Lesser amounts may be awarded based on funds available in the current year’s grant budget and applicants’ individual needs.
• Grants will not be awarded for prerequisite courses or to those needing or choosing immediate continuation of their education beyond the current program for which the grant is requested.
• A PCE grant is not to be used for living expenses or to repay educational loans or personal debt.
• A PCE grant is a grant-in-aid for education related expenses such as:
– tuition
– books, supplies
– testing and graduation fees
– transportation (only for estimated cost of gas, parking, and local bus fare,
not for auto loan payments or maintenance)

The P.E.O. Program for Continuing Education (PCE) is intended to provide one-time need based grants to women who are citizens or legal permanent residents of the United States or Canada for use in completing a degree or certification necessary for improving or gaining skills leading to employment.
• The maximum grant is $3,000.
• Lesser amounts may be awarded based on funds available in the current year’s grant budget and applicants’ individual needs.
• Grants will not be awarded for prerequisite courses or to those needing or choosing immediate continuation of their education beyond the current program for which the grant is requested.
• A PCE grant is not to be used for living expenses or to repay educational loans or personal debt.
• A PCE grant is a grant-in-aid for education related expenses such as:
– tuition
– books, supplies
– testing and graduation fees
– transportation (only for estimated cost of gas, parking, and local bus fare,
not for auto loan payments or maintenance)
– childcare (only while in class or studying)
– uniforms required by the educational program
– equipment/tools necessary for the course of study
• Grants may be awarded for academic or technical courses including online programs offered by educational institutions in the United States or Canada.

P.E.O. Educational Loan Fund
Loan
The P.E.O. ELF loan is intended to help qualified women attain a degree or certification from an accredited postsecondary educational institution.
The maximum loan amount is $12,000 for associate and bachelor degree programs, technical or professional trainingand post-graduate certifications; $15,000 for master’s degrees and $20,000 for doctoral-level degrees. Loans may not exceed the amount recommended by her sponsoring chapter. Loans are subject to the availability of funds.
A woman may draw up to the maximum loan in one installment if she is in the final year of obtaining a technical, associate’s or bachelor’s degree, is a graduate or doctoral student or is enrolled in a post-degree certificate/licensure/endorsement program.
A student must have and maintain the scholastic average required for graduation by the school she attends. A current transcript is required as evidence of satisfactory academic standing before an installment of a loan may be drawn. Reports of academic progress may be required for each note.
Following the graduation date originally stated on the application, interest will begin accruing and will be billed on an annual basis. Interest accruals and payments will not be deferred if the student continues with further study or joins a service organization. The current rate of interest is 2 percent.
All applicants for the ELF program must be sponsored by a local P.E.O. chapter.

Each year, nationally the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi awards 51 Fellowships of $5000 each and six awards valued at $15,000 each to members entering the first year of graduate or professional study. Salina Regional Health Center Service Auxiliary And Foundation
Scholarships are available for students entering or continuing their education in health related careers. Students must be accepted and enrolled in 6 or more credit hours, have a minimum 2.6 gpa and include a statement of financial need. Priorities are given to full-time students accepted into initial nursing programs, employees of SRHC, former SRHC Youth Volunteers and students enrolled in areas that are in high demand at SRHC. Other applicants for health related careers or advanced education in their fields will be considered for any additional Aux awards. Award recipients will be expected to be employed by SRHC or other Sunflower Health Network Hospital for a minimum of 24 months upon completion of their educational programs.
