Mitchell – Piedmont Federal Endowed Scholarship Fund was established on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Piedmont Federal Savings & Loan Association and in honor and memory of Nicholas W. In 1911, a young man from Stokes County named Nicholas Mitchell became managing officer. Mr. Mitchell proved to be such a good manager that his leadership helped the Association prepare for the turbulent times ahead. Through Mr. Mitchell’s guidance, not a single depositor lost a penny during the Great Depression. N.W.
