Admission Requirements
Tidewater Community College (TCC) is a two-year public institution of higher education located in Virginia. TCC is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award the Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, and Associate of Applied Science degrees.
The mission of TCC is to empower our students to achieve their academic and career goals. We provide accessible, high-quality and affordable education and training opportunities to meet the diverse needs of our students and the community.
TCC serves a diverse student population of over 46,000 credit and non-credit students annually. We offer over 200 programs of study leading to associate degrees, certificates and diplomas.
TCC is committed to student success. We offer a variety of services and resources to support our students, including academic advising, tutoring, career services, disability services, and more.
To be eligible for admission to TCC, you must:
1. Be a high school graduate or have a GED®. If you are not a high school graduate or do not have a GED®, you may still be eligible for admission if you meet one of the following criteria:
a. You are at least 18 years old and have not been enrolled in a high school for at least one year.
b. You are a transfer student from another college or university and have completed at least 12 college-level credits with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
2. Submit an application for admission.
3. Submit official high school and/or college transcripts.
4. Take the Virginia Placement Test (VPT) and/or submit SAT or ACT scores. You may be exempt from taking the VPT if you have:
a. Completed the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) tests with a passing score in reading and writing, or
b. Completed an associate degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university, or
c. Completed college-level English and math courses with a grade of C or higher.
5. Meet any additional requirements for your chosen program of study.
Once you have been admitted to TCC, you will need to complete a New Student Orientation and register for classes.
