Texarkana College was founded in 1927 as a junior college. The college was originally housed in the old Texarkana High School building. In its early years, the college offered a two-year program of study leading to an Associate of Arts degree. In the 1930s, the college began offering a two-year program leading to an Associate of Science degree. In the 1940s, the college began offering four-year bachelor's degrees in partnership with the University of Texas at Austin. In the 1950s, the college began offering a two-year program leading to an Associate of Applied Science degree.

In the 1960s, the college expanded its offerings to include a number of technical and vocational programs. In the 1970s, the college began offering a four-year program leading to a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences degree. In the 1980s, the college added a number of health science programs. In the 1990s, the college added a number of new academic programs and expanded its workforce development and continuing education programs.

Today, Texarkana College is a comprehensive two-year community college serving the needs of students in the Texarkana region. The college offers a wide variety of academic and technical programs. The college also offers a number of workforce development and continuing education programs.
