Southwest Wisconsin Technical College is a public, two-year institution of higher education located in Fennimore, Wisconsin. The college serves the residents of southwest Wisconsin and offers more than 50 associate degree and technical diploma programs in a variety of career fields.
Southwest Wisconsin Technical College was founded in 1966 as the Southwest Wisconsin Vocational-Technical Institute. The college was created in response to the need for more trained workers in the area's growing dairy industry. The institute offered its first classes in 1967 and awarded its first diplomas in 1968.
In 1972, the institute became a part of the Wisconsin Technical College System and was renamed Southwest Wisconsin Technical Institute. In 1982, the name was changed again to Southwest Wisconsin Technical College.
The college is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
Southwest Wisconsin Technical College offers Associate of Applied Science degrees, technical diplomas, and certificates in a variety of career fields, including agriculture, business, construction, health care, manufacturing, and transportation. The college also offers a number of general education courses that can be transferred to four-year colleges and universities.
In addition to its academic programs, Southwest Wisconsin Technical College offers a number of student services, including career counseling, academic advising, tutoring, and job placement assistance. The college also has a number of student organizations, including the Student Senate, the Student Activities Board, and the Student Nurses Association.
