Northwest-Shoals Community College (NW-SCC) is a two-year institution of higher education located in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, United States. It is part of the Alabama Community College System. The school was established in 1963 and its main campus is situated on a 200-acre (0.81 km2) site. The college also operates a branch campus in Phil Campbell, Alabama.
NW-SCC offers a variety of programs and courses of study leading to the Associate in Arts, the Associate in Science, and the Associate in Applied Science degrees. The college also offers a number of certificate programs.
The college is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award the Associate in Arts, the Associate in Science, and the Associate in Applied Science degrees.
NW-SCC is a member of the American Association of Community Colleges, the Association of Alabama Colleges, and the Council of Two-Year Colleges of Alabama.
The college's athletic teams compete in the Alabama Community College Conference of the National Junior College Athletic Association. The school's colors are green and gold and its mascot is the Lion.
In 1963, the Alabama Legislature passed a bill establishing a community college in Colbert County. The bill was sponsored by State Representative Jimmy Hill. The college was originally named Colbert County Community College. The first classes were held in 1964 in rented facilities in downtown Muscle Shoals. The first permanent campus of the college was completed in 1968.
In 1991, the college's name was changed to Northwest-Shoals Community College.
In 2006, the college completed a $22 million expansion and renovation project. The project included the construction of a new library, a new student center, and a new health sciences building.
In 2015, the college was ranked as the #1 community college in Alabama by Washington Monthly magazine.
