New Mexico State University-Alamogordo is a public university located in Alamogordo, New Mexico, United States. It is part of the New Mexico State University System. The university offers associate's, bachelor's, and master's degrees in a variety of disciplines.
The university was founded in 1958 as Alamogordo Community College. It became a four-year institution in 1963 and was renamed New Mexico State University-Alamogordo. The university has an enrollment of approximately 3,500 students.
The university is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. It offers a variety of programs and degrees through its five colleges: Arts and Sciences, Business, Education, Health and Social Sciences, and Technology.
The university's campus is located in the foothills of the Sacramento Mountains. It occupies a land area of over 200 acres (0.81 km2). The campus includes a variety of buildings and facilities, including the Taysom Library, the Birdwell Gymnasium, and the NMSU-Alamogordo Performing Arts Center.
The university's athletics teams compete in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). The university's mascot is the Thunderbird.
