Lindsey Hopkins was founded in 1949 as a trade school for Miami-Dade County students. The school was named after Lindsey Hopkins, a local businessman and philanthropist. The school initially offered programs in auto mechanics, carpentry, and welding. In the 1950s, the school began to expand its programs and facilities. In the 1960s, the school became a technical college and began offering programs in a variety of fields. Today, the college offers over 50 programs and serves over 10,000 students.

The college is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. It is also a member of the Florida Association of Community Colleges.
