Brewster Technical College was founded in 1958 as a trade school for adults. The college was named after Dr. William H. Brewster, who was the Superintendent of Hillsborough County Schools from 1943 to 1957. The college initially offered programs in automotive mechanics, carpentry, and plumbing. In the 1960s, the college began to expand its program offerings to include other technical and trade programs.

Today, Brewster Technical College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. The college enrolls over 4,000 students annually. The college offers both credit and non-credit programs, and students can earn associate degrees, diplomas, and certificates.
